Background
|
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education, Pune came into existence on 1st Jnauary, 1966, to regulate certain matters pertaining to secondary education in the state of Maharashtra. In 1977, the name was changed to “The Maharashtra State Board of secondary and Higher Secondary Education”. The board is diverse, with mass participative education system with a broader base of access that provides the benefits of uniformity & diversity. Over a period of four decades, the board has grown tremendously in terms of schools and number of students.

The council was established in 1958 by the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate. In 1973,by the Delhi Education Act,1973 the council was set up as a body conducting public examinations. The council provides a course in general education without any diversification of studies. It is as per the recommendations of the New Education Policy, 1986 through the medium of English. In order to make the prescribed syllabus more relevant and directed towards learning outcomes, the council is engaged in continued development of curriculum frame works and assessments systems.

The Board was originally setup in the year 1921, with certain pre-independent states in its jurisdiction. The Board witnessed rapid growth and expansion at the level of secondary education due to improved quality and standard of its institutions. In post independence era, with the establishment of state boards & state universities in various parts of the country, the board was finally reconstituted in 1962 in its present form. It has setup six regional offices in six states to cover surrounding states/regions. From a group of 309 schools in 1962 the board has today total 8278 schools with 200 new schools getting affiliated each year.

IBO was founded by a group of European teachers to address the educational needs of children of business men and foreign service professionals in internationally transferable jobs. It is a nonprofit organization having 1598 schools in 121 countries. The IBO council employs education researchers around the world to design its syllabus and frame curriculams.It offers PYP and MYP programme. Its well known study programme is the IB Diploma designed for higher secondary students in the final two years of school before university. Only the IB diploma has a set syllabus with PYP & MYP designed as frame works to shape school pedagogies.
